Bethany Wood started playing piano at the age of 6 and flute at the age of 9. She grew up playing flute or piano nearly every Sunday in church, and took lessons on both instruments for several years before deciding to pursue the flute exclusively. At the age of 11, Bethany began playing flute with the UWF Symphonic Band under the direction of Richard Glaze, her first flute teacher. Bethany dual-enrolled at UWF and graduated summa cum laude at the age of 19 before going on to get her M.M. from Florida State University. She studied with Ann Leffard while at UWF, and Eva Amsler at FSU.
Bethany plays 2nd flute and piccolo in the Pensacola Symphony and Pensacola Opera. She has played in the Pensacola Symphony since 2001, when she was contracted at the age of 16. She also performed regularly with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra for several years, and has performed with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and Pensacola Little Theatre. She has performed in masterclasses for Jeanne Baxtresser, Michel Debost, Leone Buyse, Bart Feller, Linda Chesis, Mary Karen Clardy and Brad Garner. Bethany is an adjunct flute instructor at the University of West Florida and Pensacola State College, and has a private studio of flute and piano students.
