Please join us this weekend as Dr. Rodney Whatley, Director of Theatre, will be inducted into the FCSAA Hall of Fame! A small ceremony will be held on November 9th, before Saturday’s production of PSC’s fall musical, The Producers. This will be held in the Ashmore Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Rodney Whatley has been the Director of Theatre and Theatre Program Coordinator at Pensacola State College since 2005. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Pensacola Junior College, Jefferson Davis Community College and the University of West Florida. Rodney has directed more than 50 productions for Pensacola State, many of which have been part of the FCSAA respondent program and traveling theatre festival. His students have also participated in the State College Ten Minute Play Festival at the Florida Theatre Conference for many years. While serving as the Theatre Division Representative for the FCSAA Executive Committee from 2011-2014, Dr. Whatley was committed to encouraging colleges to participate in the program. He continues to be an active respondent, sharing his time and talent with the Theatre Division.
Dr. Whatley was awarded tenure in 2008 and promoted to Associate Professor in 2015. While on sabbatical in the Fall of 2018, he wrote a soon-to-be-published book on teaching Acting 1. He has acted in and directed plays at the Pensacola Little Theatre and premiered a new script at Theatre West-Sanctuary in the Groves Playhouse. Rodney has also served as a judge for the District 1 Thespian Competition for 17 years and has been a high school one-act competition judge at the Florida Theatre Conference.
Dr. Whatley was nominated for induction into the FCSAA Hall of Fame by the Theatre Division.
The FCSAA Hall of Fame is comprised of Administrators, Coaches, Advisors, Officials, Students, and other nominees that have contributed a minimum of ten years to FCSAA or one of its member institutions. They have been selected by their peers on the merits of their community and state college contributions and achievements as well as significant accomplishments.
